Freebo is a free, open-source desktop media client for macOS, Windows and Linux. Browse Emby and watch in your local player with progress sync.

Your library already organizes your videos, and your computer already has a player you like. Freebo brings them together so browsing, watching and resuming feel connected.

Freebo has no subscription or format unlock fees. Choose your player, keep your preferences, and sync watch progress back to your library.

Pick up where
you left off.

Keep the Emby you know
Browse, search and save favorites on the original Emby website. Play a movie, episode or video playlist, and Freebo opens your chosen local player.
Resume your last session
Keep Emby’s resume position, audio, subtitle and video-version selections. Watch progress is sent back to the server.
Let the next episode follow
Continue to the next item. Pause, seek or switch episodes from the floating panel, and use the server icon to return to the current item’s page.

A tab for each server
Open a server from Home or the tab bar. Sign in on the server’s own website.
Configuration in one place
Add an address, optionally save credentials, and test the connection. An empty name falls back to the address; saved credentials fill the login page.
A window that remembers
Reopen at your last window size and position. English, Chinese, light and dark appearance can follow your system.

Set up. Settle in.

  1. Choose a player

    Select an installed player, or choose its path manually.

  2. Add Emby

    Enter your server address and sign in on its Emby website.

  3. Press play

    Choose a video from your library and press play.

Is Freebo free?
Yes. Freebo is free and open source, with no subscription or format unlock fees. Its source code uses the Apache-2.0 license.
What do I need to start?
A macOS, Windows or Linux computer, an Emby server you can sign in to, and an installed supported local player.
Which video formats can I play?
Your chosen local player handles decoding and determines format support. Freebo does not charge by format, and keeps your Emby audio, subtitle and video-version selections.
